£8 Seed Funding

HEAL member selling tomatoes

In the Mchinji District of Malawi, 76% of people subsist on less than £1 per day.  Your gift of seed funding for a member of one of our women’s savings groups in Malawi will provide a disadvantaged young woman with a much-needed financial boost to start up her own business, enabling her to take control of her life and support her family.

£10 Educational Supplies and Backpack

PE Brenda

Your gift will provide a girl with a backpack full of the essential educational equipment that she needs to study. Fewer than 1 in 5 girls makes it to secondary school in sub-Saharan Africa. Many families can’t afford the costs, even though their children desperately want to go.

£20 School Uniform and Shoes

4 sponsored PEs

Your gift will provide a girl with the full uniform and shoes she needs to attend school. Many of the vulnerable girls with whom we work are living in poverty and desperate to complete their education, but lack the resources to make this possible.

£25 Savings Group Membership

Your gift will support one young woman’s membership of a local savings group for a year.   Set up as part of the Act4Africa HEAL initiative (Health, Empowerment and Livelihoods), these all-female groups are about much more than just savings and finance.  The meetings provide the opportunity for uninhibited freedom of expression and mutual support between members.

£50 School Fees

Ugandan school girls

Your gift will keep one girl in secondary school for a whole year, allowing her to maximise her opportunities and to realise her ambitions. Gender inequalities often leave girls powerless and vulnerable in Uganda. They lack control over their lives and are often forced into low-paid work, early marriage, unwanted pregnancy and sexual and domestic violence.

£75 Train a Women’s Champion

Help women in Malawi stand up against gender inequality and violence. Your gift will train one of our Community Mentors in sexual and reproductive health rights as well as basic business skills. Community Mentors learn the skills to deliver the training they have received to other women in their communities, so they may act as ‘change agents’ to mobilise whole communities.
