Across the UK, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi and Zimbabwe, the Act4Africa family is working to stop the relentless spread of HIV/AIDs in its tracks - by fundraising, doing fantastic sponsored events, joining our teams on the ground through our expeditions, doing a medical elective, attending a charity gig or helping out in another way.
Whatever you do, whoever you are, EVERYONE can be part of the solution to this mammoth problem. If you want to find out more, you can read the Act4Africa story here, or you can check out all the articles in our Factfile here!

The statistics of how AIDS has devastated Africa are horrific:
- Africa is currently home to over 12 million AIDS orphans
- 1 in 5 of all teenagers in Africa are HIV positive (most will die before their 21st birthdays)
- Africa is home to only 10% of the world's population but 68% of the world's AIDs population live there
- Approximately 1.7 million new infections reported last year in Africa
- 61% of those infected in Africa are women
- In the past year there have been over 1.6 million HIV deaths in Africa
- There are approx. 2 million children under the age of 15 living with HIV
The international AIDS charity AVERT reports that sub-Saharan Africa faces a triple challenge of colossal proportions:
- To reduce the annual toll of new infections by enabling individuals to protect themselves from infection
- To cope with the cumulative impact of over 17 million AIDS deaths on orphans and other survivors, on communities and national development
- To bring health care, support and solidarity to a growing population of people with HIV-related illness
And it's that triple challenge that we, together, are battling head on!
