Saturday, 31 Mar 12Teachers Expeditions - Jinja, Uganda

Classroom Summer 2011

[DATES FROM THE 31st MARCH - 14th APRIL 2012 ]
or
[DATES FROM THE 28th JULY - 11th AUGUST 2012 ]

This is an amazing experience for student teachers or qualified teachers.

As a qualified and experienced teacher herself Kathy Smedley (co-founder of Act4Africa) knows the immediate impact this kind of life-changing trip can have.
Act4frica has worked with and cultivated strong relationships in the schools within Jinja for the past decade.

Kathy herself admits,
"This is a character-building adventure taking you directly into the heart of African culture to not only meet the warm-hearted and generous-spirted Ugandans but to share, contribute and extend your teaching expertise and learn much more than you probably are able to give.

It's a phenomenal opportunity to be part of an amazing team with a shared vision & undoubtedly to also make friends for life!".

The experience will include:

- Working in schools alongside Ugandan teachers to share ideas and experiences.

- Taking small groups of very able children or children who need extra help.

- Using your own skills and passion to make a difference to some of the world's poorest children.

- Gaining insight into a different culture by working at the heart of the community.

- Making an immediate and real impact in the lives, and future of others.

- The opportunity in your time off to explore the riches of the African culture and the beautiful country.

Act4Africa have 10+ years experience taking a cross-section of volunteers from ages 18 to 70 years to Africa for periods from anything from 3 to 12 months.

Saturday, 12 May 12Thunderwalk - fancy a Team Challenge?

Thunderwalk - May 2012

Global Adventure Challenges are proud to launch ThunderWalk – a brand new Open Challenge event for the charity sector! Taking place in the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park in May 2012, ThunderWalk is a tough 54 mile trek, the challenge being to complete the route within 24 hours.

Some History
For the past 3 years, Global Adventure Challenges have organised 24 hour trekking events on a bespoke level for a handful of clients. Not only are 24 hour endurance events VERY popular, they also give participants a real challenge to aim for. Trekking over 50 miles in 24 hours is tough, but believe us, it is very achievable. Over the past 3 years we have witnessed well over 1,000 participants succssfully complete these 24 hour trekking events, and we are now delighted to offer ThunderWalk, a unique Open Challenge experience, to the mass market.

Who can take part in Thunderwalk?
In the current climate, companies aware of cost are on the hunt for new ways to foster team spirit and engage staff in charity challenge events. Gone are the days of 3 Peaks, (which are massively overdone, have negative long term impacts on the environment and issues surrounding current codes of conduct) and gone are the days of boring staff bonding sessions.

ThunderWalk is the next generation of challenge, and your corporate supporters will love the extreme nature of this amazing event.

ANYONE CAN TAKE PART! ThunderWalk is a team based event. Only 4 walkers to a team plus a support crew are required. The event is ideal for past challenge participants looking for tougher experiences, any corporate supporters wanting to develop team bonding, social supporter groups, major donors and their personal contacts... the list is exhaustive! Anyone can form a team and take part.

Is Trekking 54 miles in 48 hours really achievable? Is it Popular?
YES and YES! In fact, we've not even launched this event properly until today, and 10 teams have already been booked. These 10 teams are from companies which have secured these places as team building exercises for their staff. In previous years, we've had teams formed from local pubs, clubs and sport groups too!

How can Act4Africa benefit from Thunderwalk?
ThunderWalk is an Open Challenge, meaning it's completely risk free for your charity to get involved. There are no minimum number of teams for you to recruit, and no up-front costs to secure any team places. The rules regarding promotion and recruitment are exactly the same as any other Open Challenge you've seen. It really couldn't be easier!
