Chapter 5 of Teams in Africa by Martin Smedley
This has been a typical month for our amazing African teams in Uganda, Tanzania and Malawi.
They have all been battling hard to deliver our workshops and provide HIV counselling and testing to remote villages in conditions which for most of us would prove almost impossible.
One of the most serious challenges they face is reliable transport.
Our Tanzania team have recently suffered a road traffic accident through no fault of their own as another minibus careered out of control with failing brakes down mountain pass and hit them from the rear.
Our minibus is now damaged, as can be seen in this photo.
Our 4 wheel drive in Kasese broke down, our Malawi 4x4 has just had to have a new gear box and the minibus in Jinja is on its last legs and needs replacing urgently.
Despite all these set backs our teams overcome such difficulties day after day.
After all its all in a days work for them and Act4Africa!
Monday, 17 May 10 - 13:30New East Africa Regional Manager
Chapter 4 of Teams in Africa by Chris Grieves
Act4Africa are thrilled to announce the promotion of Pastor Peter Masereka (Kasese Team Leader) to the newly created role of East Africa Regional Manager.
The new role is going to play a crtitical part in the strategy of quality and consitency for the delivery of our 'experience crafted' health education and Train the Trainer programmes.
Peter brings with him a vast breadth of leadership experience.
Having successfully run the Church in Kasese and been responsible for planting many churches around the greater Kasese region to serve the local communities (five church plants in as many years) he understands the core needs of the people of the area and is clearly a strong pastoral figure to many.
He also brings a maturity to this role having a wife and family of five teenage children.
Peter has been acknowledged as commanding respect in his locality due to his achievements and his personal standing in the community.
But Act4Africa is never just about individuals, we're a cohesive team pulling together and Peter will use all his experience to liaise with his three Team Leaders to help us deliver our ambitious Five Million in Five Years target.
For Peter too, the role will be exciting and full of new challenges with more responsibility for budget control, programme delivery and team performance amongst others reporting directly to Martin (CEO) and Kathy Smedley.
Most importantly, alongside the economic & effective delivery of our programmes, comes the responsibility of being a guardian of Act4Africa's ethos and values and we feel Peter is certainly the man for the job - with an excellent and hardworking team of dedicated people already behind him - we wish and pray for him every success.
