Kathy’s centre

Rooted in the community in Mayuge, sustainably created, and offering hope and support to all, Kathy’s Centre sits at the heart of Act4Africa and its work.

Kathy’s Centre was created in memory of one of our founders, Kathy Smedley.

a centre for the community
Kathy’s Centre provides the community, including vulnerable women and children, with vital health and support services, pre-school education and agricultural, enterprise and financial literacy training.

Kathy’s Centre was constructed with the support of Engineers for Overseas Development (EfOD) and is a highly efficient, eco-friendly building, fitted with solar panels, and offering disabled access and eco-san toilets. The Centre was built using Interlocking Stabilised Soil Blocks rather than traditional fired brick: these bricks are environmentally-friendly, strong and durable, reflecting our commitment to sustainability. Local labourers created the bricks and the Centre was built by a local workforce under the guidance and expertise of EfOD.
