Fedelis Akoth had once been a lost hope in the forgotten village of Mayuge District, where dreams seemed to wither before they could even take root. At just 16 years old, she had already endured the bitter taste of dropping out of school, a sacrifice to the harsh realities of life. But fate had other plans for her, plans that would see her rise from the shadows and blossom into a beacon of hope for her community.
It was through the intervention of the Grow A Girl programme that Fedelis found herself on a path of transformation. Sponsored from secondary level through her tertiary education, she was given the opportunity to pursue her passion for Fashion and Design. The programme not only invested in her academic journey but also provided her with the mentorship she desperately needed.
Under the guidance of Act4Africa staff, Fedelis emerged as more than just a student; she became a peer educator, a voice for change in her community. Armed with knowledge and empowered by her experiences, she seized every opportunity to educate her peers on critical health issues, particularly HIV/AIDS awareness and safe sex practices.
As she delved deeper into her studies, Fedelis discovered her innate talent for design. With each stitch and every brushstroke, she breathed life into her creations, weaving stories of resilience and hope into every piece. From bags to clothes, suits to free-wares, her designs captured the essence of her journey – a journey marked by determination and unwavering faith.
Today, Fedelis stands tall as a rising star in the fashion industry, a testament to the transformative power of education and support. But amidst her success, she remains grounded in her roots, a loving daughter and sister, devoted to her family.
